About
Paula MBA, MSW
Breeder and Coadjutor
For the past dozen years, Paula's work has laid the foundation and launched the next era of Uyak. Her current work includes vertical integration of our prior twenty year genome in addition to reinforcing some of the core foundation elements found within our bloodline in particular, bringing forward the strengths of the Kotzebue strain. Paula has met with success in building her vision for a 'moderne' Uyak show dog and continues to forge head while preserving our core traits. Paula has also achieved excellence at refining work on modern temperaments that meet the social and cultural needs of the 21st Century, continuing our superlative track record of breed health and in addition, maintaining our preeminent leadership role in breed type.
Historically, Paula's bond with Uyak's first foundation bitch, "Connie" inspired her passion to focus on the active role she played in helping to establish Uyak. Paula has spent her lifetime involved in the breed as a mentee of Harold, a collaborator on a number of important Uyak breedings over the years, an owner of several influential Uyak studs over the generations, a breeder as well as a professional groomer and exhibitor. At an early age, she began as a kennel assistant, a dedicated junior handler and the club trainer in breed handling & obedience for the Alaskan Malamute Club of Long Island (AMALI). Over the years, she has maintained her interest in pedigree analysis, research and documentation in her varied roles involving the perpetuation of the Uyak bloodline.
Professionally, an MBA and former VP Marketing-Citigroup, Executive Committee & VP-McGraw Hill, Paula recently earned a second Masters Degree; an MSW, with clinical experience in Autism/ADHD/Developmental Disorders as well as Geriatrics. In addition to her activities and lead role in Uyak, Paula, she is also a life coach and business counselor to entrepreneurs, CEO's and business owners.
Among other talents and interests, Paula's activities in the dog world include all facets of dog breeding, participation as a steward and judge at AKC shows and member involvement with All Breed Clubs including The Ladies Kennel Association of America, Morris-Essex Kennel Club and SCKC. Paula is also a member of the AMCA (Alaskan Malamute Club of America). Paula is an active collaborator with other breeders, a mentor for aspiring breeders and is responsible for all current and future Uyak breedings. She is married to Richard; a private practice Pediatrician and advocate for early childhood mental health as well as Advisor and Board Member of ReachWithin.org & Board Advisor AAP. She is also a devoted mother to her son, Corey; a Graduate with Honors in Environmental Studies at University at Buffalo who has launched a career in Commercial Construction Management with an eye towards environmentally friendly initiatives.
